Hints and information on how to efficiently navigate Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Note: The information is subject to change.
Amsterdam, Netherlands is served by the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). Here is some information on
how to get to central Amsterdam from the airport:
- Take the train that is located just outside of the arrivals lounge to Central Station
- Purchase your tickets from the main ticket desk in the arrivals area of the airport. At the
time of this writing, the fare is 2.90 EUR one-way and 5.40 EUR. Ensure
that the station you exit is Amsterdam Centraal. There are a few other
stations with the word Amsterdam in their names, so do not get confused.
Once in Amsterdam, you can take the trams or local buses to everywhere. Tickets for the tram can be bought at Central Station or you can pay as you go onboard. I recommend buying the tickets, called strips, before boarding as it is more economical.
There is no airline employee discount on the train to Central Station.
- Naturally, you can always take a cab, but it will be more expensive. Just follow the airport signs to the cab stand and tell the agent where you are heading. In general, cabs are quite expensive in Amsterdam.
