Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL)

Hints and information on how to efficiently navigate Honolulu, Hawaii.
Note: The information is subject to change.

Honolulu, HI is served by the Honlulu International Airport (HNL) . Here is some information on how to get to Wakiki Beach from the airport:

  • Take TheBus from stops located just outside the departure level of the terminals
    • You can take either the 19 or 20. Ensure that you are going in the direction of Waikiki Beach as the buses also go to the Nimitz Museum.
    • At the time of this writing, the fare is $2.00 USD. This fare includes the cost of a transfer. Journey time is about an hour and there is a bus about every 20 minutes or so. You can view a bus schedule here.
    • There is no airline employee discount on TheBus.
  • The are also Airport transfers available
  • Sometimes, you can get a great deal on car rentals, so this is highly recommended, especially if you want to explore the entire island. Like all major cities, downtown Waikiki is congested, so we suggest that you take the back streets. Parking is also an issue in the downtown area. If all you want is just to go to Waikiki, then TheBus is your best bet. However, if you want to include a hike up to Diamond Head (highly recommended) in your trip, then rent a car.
  • Naturally, you can always take a cab, but it will be more expensive. Just follow the airport signs to the cab stand and tell the agent where you are heading.
