Hints and information on how to efficiently navigate the Port of Spain, Trinidad area.
Note: The information is subject to change and all rates are quoted in TTD unless otherwise noted.
Departure Tax: TTD 100.00. If you are transiting to another city within 24 hours there is no charge. Cash or credit card is accepted.
The country of Trnindad is served by the Piarco International Airport in Port of Spain. Note that Trinidad is the larger of a two-island country; the other island is Tobago which has its own airport, Crown Point. There are flights and a ferry service from Trinidad. Here is some information on how to get from the Piarco Inernational airport to Port of Spain and surrounding areas:
- Piarco International (POS)
- There is a local bus that runs four times a day; 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. The cost is TTD 3.00.
- You may also take a local car from the Departure area to Arouca for TTD 3.00 and then take a maxi taxi to Port of Spain or your particular destination.
- Cabs are available from the taxi stand located to the left of the Arrival Hall. Ensure that you talk to the approved taxi cab coordinator with the yellow ID card. It will cost USD 20.00 to get to downtown Port of Spain and USD 31.00 to get to San Fernando, Trinidad's second largest city located in the southwestern part of the island.
- All the major car rental companies serve the airport and their desks can be easily found after arriving; just turn left as you exit the Arrival Hall.
