how to get to downtown San Diego from the airport:
- First, there are three terminals at this airport; Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the Commuter Terminal (the one with the big picture of Charles Lindbergh on it). The Red Bus takes you between terminals from the Red Bus stops located just outside the terminals. Buses run about every ten minutes.
- To get downtown in about 16 minutes, take the Metropolitan Transit System's Flyer #992 from stops located just outside the terminals. The bus takes you to Broadway and 9th Avenue. Typically, your wait time is about 15 minutes, starting at about 5 a.m. to just before 1 a.m. daily. You can see a schedule here. The fare is $2.25.
- Once downtown, you can take The famous Trolley to Old Town or other local areas.
- You can also pick up the Amtrak and Coaster commuter trains from downtown to other areas of the San Diego area
There is no airline employee discount on The Flyer
- The are also several shuttle services available for destinations in around the area
- Sometimes, you can get a great deal on car rentals, as the San Diego area is so vast, this is highly recommended. Like any big city though, parking will be a problem.
- Naturally, you can always take a cab, but it will be more expensive. Just follow the airport signs to the cab stand and tell the agent where you are heading.
