Machu Picchu, Peru – Currency

by Passrider

The local currency is the Sol (PEN).
USD is accepted everywhere just as the Sol. However, you should get Soles if you are heading out of the heavily populated areas such as your journey to Machu Picchu.

At the airport you can use ATMs that will deliver USDs or Peruvian Soles (PEN).
I recommend that you use your ATM card as despite the ATM fees, you will get a better rate of exchange than in the city, your hotel or the airport. You should however, have some local currency before you leave your country of origin.
