Which Credit Card Is Best For Earning Miles For My Trip?

by Kerwin McKenzie on April 18, 2014

City of Athens from the hill just below the AcropilisIf you are not using a credit card to earn miles when you travel, you are losing out. Every single dollar you spend MUST earn some kind of mileage toward your future trips. So you may be saying, well, I don’t get miles for my flights, usually. Well. true, but you book a hotel, take a taxi, buy souvenirs, eat out, etc. when you travel. Always use a credit card wherever possible.

Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® - Earn 2x on All Purchases

I’ve used different cards in the past, but recently got shifted to the Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® – Earn 2x on All Purchases. I missed out on the initial signup bonus of 40,000 miles since I was moved from an existing card by the bank to this card, but you won’t if you apply here today and spend $3,000 or more on purchases in the first 90 days from opening your account. You’re perhaps saying that’s a lot to spend in three months. Well, just review your monthly spending and you’ll perhaps see that you spend about $1,000 per month or very close to it. Just use the card everywhere instead of using cash and pay it off each month with the money you would have spent anyways. Groceries, OA tickets, ground transportation, lunch, eating out, a night at the bar, the Doctor’s Office, rent (some places take credit cards, just ask), etc. You name it you can perhaps pay with a credit card, use this card. Here are three additional no-brainer reasons to get the card:

  1. Earn 2X the miles and you can use it on almost any airline
  2. See your FICO score so you can keep track of your credit score
  3. No foreign transaction fees; key for international travel since its about 3% per transaction.

But I fly space available you are perhaps saying. Well, I see emails and online posts about people getting bumped especially during the Holiday seasons. You can use these miles to ensure you get where you want to go, when you want to go. Read more about the Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® – Earn 2x on All Purchases and apply today.

This Barclay card is very misleading about miles.  They are not awarding miles; they award points toward retail airplane tickets, hotels, etc.  They need to make it clear in their advertising that they do not award miles.  Suckered me into getting the card; I then called an asked them to award all my miles to AA Advantage, was informed that these are not miles and got an apology for being misleading.

Tom you are absolutely right . It took me more than long time to closely understand this real gimmick. Thank you for confirming what I personally hesitated to state lacking some better English to interpret the fishing hook…between those inviting CCard  lines about mileage.

How was this not disclosed properly?
As I can give this feedback to them.

Thanks.
