15 Tips Every Buddy PassRider Should Know

As a Buddy Passrider, you must remember that you are representing the employee whose buddy pass you’re using. As such, we prepared some tips for you when passriding:

1. Dress smart

This is really a small price to pay to get a discount ticket. Dress accordingly. If you don’t want to follow the rules for this type of travel, then you should just buy a ticket.

2. Don’t check bags

This makes it easier for you to change flights if necessary and it may be necessary.

3. Know the flight schedules for your trip

Be prepared, use Passrider.com to help you.

4. Have backup plans

Remember that its space available, so you may not get on if the flight is full. So you should have backup plans in case things fall apart and they may.

5. Don’t use a buddy pass for a life event, buy a ticket

If you have to be somewhere, buy a ticket.

6. Don’t whine or complain

You are representing the employee, so don’t make them get reprimanded. Just chill. If there’s an issue contact the employee.

7. Use the electronic services of the airline to check loads and list for your flight

This saves the airline money and also help you to get checked in efficiently. If you have an issue contact the person who gave you the pass, don’t argue with the agent.

8. If you know in advance you’ll be flying, buy a ticket

Read my article here about how to find deals.

9. Be courteous to the agents and others you interact with

This should go without saying, but I see people disrespecting others all the time. Say hello, please and thank you.

10. Don’t crowd the podium, have a seat as close as possible

The agents will call you if you have a seat. Also, use the electronic tools, Apps, screens at airports, etc. to help you. Don’t make the gate agent’s job difficult at all.

11. Be attentive and listen for your name to be called

I know the gate area is crowded and bothered, but listen; don’t be distracted with your phone or others. Sometimes they only call your name once.

12. Consider sharing a hotel room with others if you have to stay overnight as you got bumped

Sometimes more than one person is bumped. If another person looks trustworthy, consider sharing a room with them to decrease cost. Ensure that you work out the details and you trust them of course. Follow your instinct.

13. Consider renting a car with others if you get bumped and have to drive the rest of the way

This is a great way to save money too. Think about it the next time you get bumped.

14. Don’t swap seats with other passengers

This is a no-no. So don’t do it.

15. Behave yourself on the flight

Seriously, don’t make a fuss if something does not work out. If asked to move to another seat, do so politely and quickly.

Note: It’s not the agent’s fault you did not make the flight, so don’t argue.

  1. With the liquids ban it’s hard not to check bags sometimes, especially if you are going on a long trip. Perhaps you could offer some tips on using the electronic services of the airline to list for the flight or check loads. The way to do this is not always obvious to people who don’t use ID-90 travel a lot.

    1. Makes sense Averyl. Will see if I can weave that into the document.

      Thanks for the comment.

    2. If you are flying on a buddy pass and are saving all that money on airfare you should maybe consider purchasing excessive liquids at your destination rather than checking a bag.  Or reducing your liquid consumption as a smart traveler.

  2. Always show your airline badge when going through security to go through airline employee lines and to get discounts on airport food no matter where you go. Almost all places honor the badges.

  6. Do not share that you are a pass-rider with others in the boarding area, giving out too much detail can get you and the person’s passes you are riding on in-trouble.

  8. Hello, Kerwin.

What if you are holding a buddy pass. Then who will be obliged for the fee for the processing of transit visa if in case you are bumped off in the transit city which is Doha?

    Let say:
    Manila-Doha – holding buddy pass
    Doha-Vienna – holding buddy pass

    Embarkation city: Manila
    Destinationa city: Vienna
    Transit City: Doha

    Any idea?

    1. Thanks for the question Jeff JB,

You the traveler is responsible to get any visa you need for your trip. If you are bumped in a transit city, you are responsible for obtaining the visa for that city if one is required. Some airlines won’t board you if they think you will get bumped and don’t have a visa for the country in which you will get bumped.

I hope this answers your question.
