České Budějovice, Czech Republic: At Night

In 2018, I was visiting the Czech Republic and took a side trip to Ljubljana, Slovenia via bus. It was quite the adventure as I boarded the Flixbus just outside Prague a little bit after 8p and arrived in České Budějovice at 10:02p. I then departed about 12:30a as the outbound bus was later in arriving.

This was going to be quite the journey as my next stop would be in České Budějovice, where I’d have to wait a few hours at night for my next bus then overnighting it to Ljubljana. The bus would continues on to Cesky Krumlov. I’d not been here before, had no idea where it was, but connecting here was the cheapest way to get to Ljubljana and my wait was about 2 hours.

Once I arrived, I checked the boards to ensure my departing bus was on there and sure it was at 00:10.

So, in the sense of adventure, I decided to go see the city at night! Here’s what I saw.

First, a photo of the bus station; it’s actually a huge shopping mall on the lower floors and the bus station is on the top floor.

Where is České Budějovice?

České Budějovice is located in the south of the Czech Republic directly south of Prague and southwest of Ostrava and Brno. It’s also about 30 minutes away from Cesky Krumlov where my friend Patti visited.

How To Get Here

Fly into Prague, Czech Republic (PRG) and take a bus or train down. I took Flixbus as the schedule worked and I was on my way elsewhere. You may also take Regiojet, which despite its name is not an airline, but a bus and train company. I did take Regiojet, but from Vienna to Bratislava, Slovakia.

Things To Do

I don’t really know what to do here, so I really just looked for the city center on my Google Maps App and plotted a course towards it. These photos depicted what I saw along the way, and to my pleasant surprise, I saw an aviation monument!

Where To Stay

I was only here at night so I did not stay anywhere. I did past a few hotels though and you can use the search box below to find a place to stay.

The best of them seemed to be the Grand Hotel Zvon on the main square.

Where To Eat

As I walked around the city, I could see that there were many places to eat that were still open. Surprisingly there were people still walking around the town.

I didn’t really stop to eat anywhere as I had limited time and currency; the only thing I did get was some Lemon ice tea from the machine at the train station; lame I know :-), but that was all I really wanted.
