France Non-Rev Travel Guide
Wondering how to get to France on a non-rev ticket? Start with the obvious firehose: Air France flies nonstop into Paris-Charles de Gaulle from more than 20 US cities — Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Newark, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington — with Delta, American, United and JetBlue piling on top. But CDG is everyone’s first list, so summer loads are heavy. The rest of this guide is the insider map: Nice’s own US nonstops, the low-cost Orly plays, the Montreal and Amsterdam back doors into regional France, and the five overseas territories most non-revs forget are domestic French flights.
Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) — The Everything Airport
CDG is Air France’s global hub and one of the busiest airports in Europe. For US-based non-revs it is the deepest transatlantic bench on the continent — five carriers, every US region covered:
| Carrier | Alliance | US Nonstop Cities |
|---|---|---|
| Air France | SkyTeam | 19 US cities — ATL, BOS, ORD, DFW, DEN, DTW, IAH, LAS, LAX, MIA, MSP, JFK, EWR, MCO, PHX, RDU, SFO, SEA, IAD |
| Delta | SkyTeam | 10 cities — ATL, BOS, CVG, DTW, JFK, LAS, LAX, MSP, SEA, SLC |
| American | Oneworld | 5 cities — CLT, DFW, JFK, ORD, PHL |
| United | Star Alliance | 4 cities — EWR, IAD, ORD, SFO |
| JetBlue | No alliance | BOS, JFK — verify interline access |
Beyond the Atlantic, CDG’s SkyTeam-anchored long-haul roll call reaches every continent: Korean, China Eastern, China Airlines, Vietnam, Saudia, MEA, Kenya Airways, Aeroméxico and ITA inside the alliance, plus Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Singapore, ANA, Air India, Japan-bound JAL, Turkish, and the full Morocco, Senegal and West Africa network on Air France and Royal Air Maroc.
Paris-Orly (ORY) — The Low-Cost & Overseas Gateway
Orly is Paris’s second airport and a completely different animal: less transatlantic mainline, but two genuine US plays plus the launch pad for Corsica, North Africa and every overseas territory.
| From | Code | Airline & Non-Rev Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US Nonstops | ||
| La Compagnie | EWR | All-business-class Newark–Orly — a boutique carrier, no alliance, but a real transatlantic option most non-revs overlook; verify interline access |
| French Bee | EWR · SFO · MIA | Low-cost long-haul — Newark, San Francisco and Miami; no alliance, verify interline |
| What Orly Is Really For | ||
| Corsica & domestic | AJA · BIA · FSC · CLY | Air France and Air Corsica — the island shuttle (see Corsica below) |
| North Africa | CMN · RAK · ALG · TUN | Royal Air Maroc, Air Algérie, Tunisair, Transavia — the Maghreb wall |
| Overseas France | PTP · FDF · RUN · CAY | Air France, Corsair, Air Caraïbes, French Bee — the Antilles, Réunion and Guiana lift (see Overseas France below) |
Nice (NCE) — The Riviera Has Its Own Transatlantic
Here’s the gem most non-revs miss: you can fly nonstop from the US straight to the French Riviera and skip Paris entirely. Nice is France’s third-busiest airport and quietly one of the best standby stories in the country.
| From | Code | Airline & Non-Rev Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US & Canada Nonstops | ||
| Delta | ATL · BOS · JFK | SkyTeam’s Riviera beachhead — three US gateways |
| United | EWR · IAD | Star Alliance pair into Newark and Washington |
| American | PHL | Oneworld’s Philadelphia hub run |
| La Compagnie | EWR | All-business Newark–Nice — no alliance, verify interline |
| Canada | YUL | Air Canada (Star) and Air Transat from Montreal |
| Gulf & Long-Haul | ||
| Middle East | DXB · DOH · AUH · TLV · RUH | Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, El Al, Saudia — the whole Gulf lands on the Riviera |
| Istanbul | IST | Turkish Airlines — the Star Alliance connection from the east |
When CDG loads collapse in summer, Nice is the release valve. Delta, United and American all fly it nonstop, so a Star or Oneworld flyer who’d be twelfth on the CDG list can often walk onto Nice. And from the Gulf carriers’ side, Nice is a genuine long-haul airport — position through Dubai, Doha or Istanbul and you land on the Côte d’Azur without ever touching Paris.
Regional Gateways — Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux & Nantes
France’s regional airports rarely see US metal, but two threads make them matter to non-revs: Amsterdam on KLM and Montreal on Air Canada / Air Transat. Between them, you can reach almost any French city without fighting Paris.
| Canada | YUL | Air Canada and Air Transat to Montreal |
| Dubai | DXB | Emirates — the long-haul lifeline |
| Hub links | AMS · FRA | KLM and Lufthansa (also Munich), Turkish to Istanbul — plus BA to Heathrow |
| Addis Ababa | ADD | Ethiopian (Star) — the Africa gateway from the south of France |
| Canada | YUL · YQB | Air Transat to Montreal and Québec City |
| Hub links | AMS · CDG | KLM, Lufthansa (MUC), Turkish (IST) — plus the full Morocco and North Africa wall |
| Canada | YUL | Air Canada and Air Transat from both |
| Caribbean | FDF | Corsair flies Bordeaux to Martinique nonstop — a genuine surprise |
| Hub links | AMS · CDG | KLM and Turkish (via IST) are the interline routes out |
| Canada | YUL · YQB | Air Canada and Air Transat to Montreal and Québec |
| Caribbean | PTP | Corsair to Guadeloupe from the Atlantic coast |
| Hub links | AMS · FRA | KLM and Lufthansa (also Munich) — regional Europe covered |
The pattern to remember: KLM’s Amsterdam network reaches Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes and Nice, so if you can get to AMS you can get to almost any French city one stop out — the same trick that works for regional Britain in our UK guide.
Corsica & Low-Cost France
Two more layers worth knowing: the Corsican shuttle and France’s low-cost bases, where confirmed cash fares beat a full standby list.
| Air Corsica & AF | ORY · NCE | Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari and Calvi from Paris, Nice and Marseille |
| Volotea | LYS · BOD + | The regional low-cost web across mainland France |
| Ryanair / Wizz | Europe-wide | Marketed as “Paris” but 80 km north — a huge low-cost base, no interline, pure cash-fallback |
The trinational EuroAirport — one airport, three codes (EAP / BSL / MLH) — sits on the French-Swiss-German border and serves all three countries. If your target is eastern France or the Rhine, it’s often the smarter approach; we cover its Swiss side in the Switzerland guide.
The other regional fields — Lille (LIL), Strasbourg (SXB), Montpellier (MPL), Biarritz (BIQ), Brest (BES) and Rennes (RNS) — are mostly easyJet, Volotea, Transavia and Air France domestic, with the occasional KLM thread to Amsterdam keeping them one stop from the world.
Overseas France — Five Territories, Three Oceans
Here’s what most non-revs never register: France’s overseas territories are domestic flights from Paris — no separate country, no visa layer — and they span the Caribbean, South America, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific. Some carry their own US nonstops.
| Territory | Code | How to Reach It |
|---|---|---|
| Caribbean (French Antilles) | ||
| Guadeloupe | PTP | Air France, Corsair & Air Caraïbes from Paris-Orly; American nonstop from Miami; Air Canada & Air Transat from Montreal; Corsair from Nantes & Marseille |
| Martinique | FDF | Air France, Corsair & Air Caraïbes from Paris-Orly; American from Miami; Condor from Frankfurt; Air Canada & Air Transat from Montreal & Québec; Corsair from Bordeaux |
| St Martin / St Barth | SFG · SBH | Air Caraïbes and regional hops via Guadeloupe — Caribbean-playbook territory |
| South America | ||
| French Guiana | CAY | Air France from Paris-CDG, Air Caraïbes from Orly; onward to Belém & Fortaleza in Brazil on Air France; Air Guyane into the interior |
| Indian Ocean | ||
| Réunion | RUN | French Bee & Corsair from Paris-Orly, Air France & Air Austral from CDG; Air Austral onward to Bangkok, Johannesburg, Mauritius, Madagascar & Mayotte; IndiGo to Chennai |
| Pacific | ||
| Tahiti (Fr. Polynesia) | PPT | United & French Bee nonstop from San Francisco; Air France & Air Tahiti Nui via Los Angeles; Air Tahiti Nui to Tokyo, Auckland & Sydney; Hawaiian from Honolulu |
Because these are French soil, Paris–Antilles and Paris–Réunion services run as domestic flights — but that also means French school-holiday peaks (February, Easter and July–August) fill them solid. The best non-rev angles are the ones that skip Paris: American out of Miami into Guadeloupe or Martinique, United or French Bee out of San Francisco into Tahiti, and Air Canada / Air Transat from Montreal into the Antilles. The Caribbean territories plug straight into the wider island-hopping network — see our Caribbean Non-Rev Playbook, and the Curaçao and St. Vincent guides for the neighborhood.
Best Hubs for Reaching France on Standby
SNCF, Eurostar & the Buses — How France Actually Connects
France’s rail network is the connective tissue of any standby plan here. The TGV is fast enough that a train often beats a connecting flight, and CDG has its own TGV station — you can arrive from Lyon, Bordeaux or Lille straight to the airport without going into Paris at all.
| TGV Paris → Lyon | ~2 hr | The flagship line — faster city-center to city-center than flying |
| TGV Paris → Marseille / Bordeaux / Nantes | ~2–3 hr | The provinces on a single high-speed ride; Paris–Bordeaux is barely two hours |
| CDG Airport TGV station | — | Trains from Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Rennes and more land right at the terminal — no transfer into Paris |
| Eurostar Paris → London | ~2.25 hr | Into London St Pancras — the recovery when Paris clears but the UK doesn’t (mind the UK ETA) |
| Eurostar Paris → Brussels / Amsterdam | ~1.5–3 hr | Straight into the Belgium and Netherlands hubs — a fast repositioning move |
| TGV Lyria → Geneva / Zurich · TGV → Barcelona | ~3–6 hr | Rail into Switzerland and Spain when their loads are lighter |
| Overnight bus London Victoria → Paris | Overnight | FlixBus across the Channel — a hotel night and a repositioning leg in one, the classic budget non-rev move |
Beyond rail, FlixBus and BlaBlaCar run cheap coaches from Paris to every neighboring country — Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the UK. When flights and trains are both full, the bus is the standby traveler’s reliable backstop.
Airlines Serving France — Alliance Cheat Sheet
France Non-Rev FAQ
How do I get to France from the United States on standby?
Air France alone flies nonstop into Paris-Charles de Gaulle from more than 20 US cities, with Delta, United, American and JetBlue adding their own transatlantic routes. Nice has its own US nonstops (Delta, United, American and La Compagnie), and Orly gets French Bee and La Compagnie from Newark, San Francisco and Miami. Pick your entry by load, not by habit.
Can I fly nonstop to the French Riviera without connecting in Paris?
Yes — Nice is the answer. Delta flies it from Atlanta, Boston and New York; United from Newark and Washington; American from Philadelphia; and La Compagnie runs all-business Newark–Nice. When CDG loads are brutal in summer, Nice is often wide open by comparison.
How do I reach France’s overseas territories?
Paris-Orly is the hub — Air France, Corsair, Air Caraïbes and French Bee serve Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion and French Guiana as domestic flights. Skip Paris where you can: American flies Miami to Guadeloupe and Martinique nonstop, United and French Bee fly San Francisco to Tahiti, and Air Canada and Air Transat reach the Antilles from Montreal. Just watch French school-holiday peaks, when everything Paris–overseas fills solid.
What’s the best hub to reach regional France without Paris?
Amsterdam and Montreal. KLM connects Amsterdam to Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes and Nice; Air Canada and Air Transat reach the same cities plus the Antilles from Montreal. Frankfurt, Munich and Istanbul give Lufthansa and Turkish options into the same regional airports.
How do I get around France once I land?
The SNCF TGV network is fast and dense — Paris to Lyon in about two hours, Paris to Bordeaux in a little over two, Paris to Marseille in around three. CDG has its own TGV station, so you can connect from provincial cities without entering Paris. Eurostar links Paris to London, Brussels and Amsterdam, and an overnight FlixBus from London Victoria to Paris saves a hotel night.
Is Air France the only real option into France?
No — it’s the backbone, but not the only game. Transavia and easyJet run big French low-cost bases, Volotea and Air Corsica cover the regions and Corsica, the Gulf carriers land long-haul at both Paris and Nice, and Canada’s Air Transat and Air Canada quietly serve half a dozen French cities. If Air France is full, one of these is usually your backup.
