Manchester Christmas Markets

Lincoln Christmas Market | Manchester Christmas Market

As a young child growing up in Kingston, Jamaica, I always enjoyed Christmas Market. My memories of those times was of my parents taking me to the Christmas Markets on Christmas Day to get my presents. Then I’d come home, play with them and break them almost immediately. Yeah, I loved pulling them apart and figuring out how they worked.

So needless to say I love Christmas Markets. In Europe they are everywhere once December comes around, not so much in the U.S. I journeyed to two of them this year; Lincoln and Manchester, both in the U.K. They were both spectacular as you can see from below.

Manchester (MAN) – They have nine Markets. Fly into the Manchester airport, then take the train right into the city. You can find the list of Christmas Markets here. I visited the one at Albert Square and was not disappointed. Use the flight schedule on Passrider.com to help with flights.

  1. Love the photos!!!!! This year I was very fortunate, my travels took me to several amazing Christmas markets. I live near New York City so I started out the season with watching the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center and visiting all of the beautiful store front displays. It was fun getting into the spirit of Christmas by kicking it off with tickets to the Rockettes.

My first overseas trip of the season was Zurich. At the train station there has an amazing market including a giant tree bejeweled in Swarovski crystals!

Then I was in Milan and the Cathedral Duomo across from the Galleria had some Christmas kiosks against a gorgeous backdrop.

I went to the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park in London and this was by far my favorite of this season…. lots of carnival rides, great food, mulled wine, ice skating, and there was even an ice bar and a fabulous ice cave of carved ice statues!

Lastly (and probably my least favorite) was Paris. This year the Christmas market that usually flanks both sides of the Champs Elysee was CANCELLED 🙁 Boooo! There were a few smaller Christmas kiosks around the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame area but none of them offered much variety. What made up for it was a visit to the Galleries Lafayette…the famous shopping mall had some of the most beautiful and creative window displays (on par with New York City!) and at the center of the mall hung a most amazing CANDY Christmas tree. Every half hour there was music and a beautiful display of floating Christmas treats. Absolutely magical!

I hope this helps and gives people ideas for visiting next year! Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

  3. Loved the pics. I hope to revisit London again. I’d love to visit Germany and Polland too. What has been your experience visiting Germany and Polland as a Black man?
