Check-in

I arrived quite early as I’d just taken the overnight train on Swiss Rail from the Lapland area of Sweden. You can read about that journey soon. I was actually quite rested.

So I could have either hung out in the very nice and cozy lobby, work, using the complimentary Wifi until my room was ready, store my luggage and go into the city. Luckily, my room was ready, so I was able to head up.

Check-in was a breeze as I was the only one there 🙂 The agent was pretty sharp and point and advised me that I can come down for breakfast if I wanted to, but note that the lines get longer as the morning progressed. I was glad they had the sign as it really did well to manage expectations.

The Property

The property sits within walking distance of the Central station in Stockholm. As a matter of fact, you can see the trains coming into the station from the rooftop, which also has a pool. Yes, its heated :-). The Clarion Hotel Sign is a part of the Choice Hotels brand so if you are a member of the loyalty program you’ll get points for your stay. Clarion in Scandinavia is termed Clarion Nordic and is a lot different than the ones in the U.S. in terms of quality and design. You can tell this the moment you walk into the property.

One cool feature is the elevators have cool music playing and its different in each glass elevator. Plus the floors are decorated in the flavor of the different Scandinavian countries. So if you’re into design, you’ll love this hotel.

The bar and Spa are located on the top floor as well. You do need special access to this floor, you just have to arrange it with the front desk.

They do have conference and meeting space located one level up from the lobby floor and that area also has a sitting area as well.

The Room

I took the fancy elevators up to the 10th floor and opened the door to this room with an awesome view. I could se for miles and below I had a beautiful Park. I actually spent sometime just sitting in that red chair and looking out the window.

Breakfast

The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast and its really good. The check-in agent had told me about how it all worked and the best time to come down, so I took a quick shower and then came down and had breakfast.

There was so much food, you can see what I mean from the photos below and sure enough, it got crowded when the sign said it would. Not to worry they don’t run out of food though :-).

Check Out

Checking out was simple and I had advised them of my early departure so they prepared a bag with an apple, a sandwich and some orange juice for me. I felt quite special with my portable breakfast. I then headed out and walked to the train station and took the Arlanda Express to the Arlanda Airport (ARN) for my flight to Newark-Liberty, NJ (EWR).

Verdict

I throughly enjoyed my stay. The staff is friendly, its a great location and as an airplane geek and train buff it was great to watch the trains come in/out of the station when I went up to check out the pool and the bar. I even spent sometime in the steam room and the sauna.
