Villa del Palmar In Loreto, Mexico
If ever there was a place to just chill and relax, this is it. I was invited by the Villa del Palmar for an all expenses paid four days to check out their property. I had never been to this part of Mexico, so I jumped at the opportunity to check this out and report my findings. I’ll tell you, I want to go again and very soon.
Here’s how it went.
For starters, one morning, I hiked up to the top of the nearby hill and got this view of the resort in the gulf.
Property Name: Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa
Property Address: Carretera Transpeninsular km 84 Ensenada Blanca Loreto, Baja California Sur, Z.C. 23880
Nearest Subway stations: None
Nearest Airport: Loreto, Mexico (LTO)
How To Get Here
First let me tell you how to get there. The Villa del Palmar Loreto is located in Loreto, Mexico. The are is served by Alaska Airlines (AS) from Los Angeles, CA (LAX) and WestJet (WS) from Calgary, AB Canada (YYC). There is also air service provided by Aereocalafia from La Paz (LAP) and Tijuana (TIJ) both in Mexico.
Arriving at the Loreto Airport
Once you arrive in Loreto and clear Immigration and Customs, which may take up to about an hour as its quite a small area. You are then whisked away by your ground transportation to the resort. You can rent a car or you pay for transportation from the hotel. Of course taxis are also available. There is also a Welcome area for the resort where you can relax in the air conditioned terminal.
It is a bout 30 minutes or so scenic drive to the resort from the airport. You go left at the airport exit. Right if you are heading into the town of Loreto. Which is really nice by the way and very quaint.
I’m always asked about how safe a place is when I travel. I had no issues in Loreto and I did get a chance to head into the city and walk around. Like everywhere you visit, you have to be careful. It’s just a part of travel and life in general.
You can see what my friend Tomiko writes about travel safety in Mexico here.
The hotel property is in the very cool cove and you see it as you drive in. It’s very soothing and makes you feel quite relaxed.
Once we pulled into the property, we were greeted by the hotel staff who had wrist bands and some paperwork for us. If you let them know if you have a special moment during your stay, they will take very good care of you. Two member sin our party had a birthday and a wedding anniversary and they were well taken care of.
The resort is located in one of the coves off the coast of the Sea of Cortez. This area is know for its underwater beauty and was frequented by the famous Jacques Cousteau.
It does have the arid nature of the region and reminds me of being in Phoenix, Arizona as there are cacti everywhere.
It is well hidden from everything else really and when you are out here you have a sense of “I’m away from the rest of the world, don’t disturb me.”
They are currently in the process of constructing a 18-hole golf course designed by one of the top golf course designers in the world. It’s scheduled to open in early summer of 2016.
I think the photos says more than I have to say.
Soon after arrival, I headed up to my room, and quite the room it is. I had a home! In that I mean, there’s a living room, a dining room, a fully functional kitchen, a bedroom, a washing machine (not all rooms have one), a Jacuzzi (not all rooms have one) plus a shower.
The do have a shuttle service to the city as well as as to the night Club which is on property. Between you and I you can just walk to the night Club, but I guess if you are a little inebriated, a shuttle ride works well :-).
There is also a paid shuttle service to/from the airport. For all shuttle, you should make a reservations.
You have a few choices to get food for your stay, plus a market since the resort is a quite the distance from the town of Loreto. As you have a kitchen you can make your own food during your stay so you can get stuff from Loreto or from the market.
If you don’t want to bother about figuring out your own food, you can take one of the many paid food options Villa del Palmar provides.
They have the Casa Mia and the Dazante Fine dining plus you also have room service. The food is actually quite good and if you just don’t want to worry about it, do the all meals option. There are a few combinations of this, just check when you are making your booking.
The green juice is my favorite; its made up of some good local stuff that I can’t remember, but just have some as its good :-).
To keep you busy Villa del Palmar has more than a few things for you to do. You can go hiking, paddle boarding, swimming in the cove, golfing (soon) and heading out for a day trip to see the sea lions, the dolphins, the whales and also to one of the nearby islands.
Some of these events do have a charge so check with your Activities coordinate. Of course, you can just sit by the pool all day and drink margaritas :-).
I’m not a fan of spas and I’ll be the first to say it, but I do love massages as they do get your body back working again. Villa del Palmar does a fantastic job of this. I think I spent three hours here and when I return, I think I’ll dedicate a whole day to this experience. The staff is also very well trained and ensures that you have a fantastic experience. Thanks Alejandro.
The worst part of all my experiences. Villa del Palmar Loreto makes this one really easy. Everything is already paid so you are all done. You arrange your ride to the airport and you are done. You do have to get to the airport super early.
I loved it. I like the secluded feel of the property and the fact that the employees really take good genuine care of you. I highly recommend this property if you really want to get away from the normal Mexican vacations.
Have you been to this region of Mexico and stayed at this property? What did you think?
