I’m an aviation geek, so going to the airports where the aircraft manufacturers are based is way up there on the happiness scale. Paine Field Airport opened in February 2019. I wasn’t there for the first flight by Alaska Airlines, but I had a chance to visit on April 20 on a flight flown by United Express (Skywest Airlines) as they had an amazing fare from Houston.

Arrival Hall

There are three gates here and one is even a hard stand. So two jet bridges. The arrival area is actually spacious, but gates crowded when several flights are in despite the size of the planes that are flown in.

Departure Hall

The departure area is nicely done. It’s only Alaska Airlines and United there for now, with United one podium space and Alaska a few more. Plus they have a departure board that is old school, with new technology. The letters and numbers flip over and make a sounds! Things To Do

Watch planes!

Seriously, this is the place to spot all kinds of Boeing planes. I did find it interesting though that the two airlines that serve the airport used the Embraer ERJ-175s; I wonder if an Airbus plane has ever landed at Paine Field ;).

This is also where Boeing is storing some of the Boeing 737 MAXs.

It’s a small airport and the home of Boeing Company. So you can watch planes as its the home of the Boeing 747, 767, 777 and 787. So you’ll see many of these types around the runway through the fence.

Boeing 777-9s with folded winglets being tested and will be in production soon.

In addition, The Boeing Company has a tour that you can take of the plant. Details can be found at https://www.futureofflight.org/boeing-tour-seattle.

If you like aviation museums, within walking distance of the airport is the Museum of Flight Restoration Center. An amazing place to visit and its only $5 for an adult. When I visited, there was a group of young children looks like maybe 8-10 that were there. I loved the questions they asked as these are our future aviators.
