  1. Before illness clipped my travel wings, my husband and I often did “bleisure” travel. He would be invited to speak at a conference somewhere or to be a visiting professor. I would be the trailing spouse. While he was “working”, I also often had writing to do, initially as a lawyer and later as a travel blogger. I often sought out a library for a change of scene. Many places have beautiful central libraries that are very comfortable and conducive to cranking out some words. I have fond memories of writing a legal brief in the Aspen, Colorado main library on my first ever laptop computer. Before that, I’d walk up to the hospital where my husband worked to meet him for a ride him. Inevitably, he still needed more time before he could leave, so I’d plop myself down in the hospital medical library and work on a brief. In those days, in the early 1980s, I had a secretary. I would write my briefs out longhand on a yellow legal pad, skipping every other line, and my secretary would type it for me. In our travels, libraries have also been tourist destinations unto themselves. We visited the main library in Melbourne, Australia, and our son who lives in Mexico City was anxious to show us La Biblioteca Vasconcelos. In Mexico City.
