Destination Information – St. Kitts
St. Kitts and Nevis have been on my list of places to visit for eons. So imagine my excitement when I was finally able to take the trip from St. Maarten to St. Kitts on Winair in a Twin Otter in April 2022.
It was during the pandemic, so it was quite difficult to get in. If I remember correctly, I had to talk to an official before I could get permission to enter. So they knew me before I arrived.
Once I arrived at the airport, I took a cab to the downtown area and headed for Nevis. The cab driver did give me a mini tour of the capital, Basseterre, but it was not much.

As I did not have enough time, my trip to Nevis was short; too short. I was surprised though to find a Jamaican food store on the island, so of course I had to have a patty; it was quite good. I need to return to explore Nevis more.
Then I headed back to St. Kitts and was able to see the spot where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea between the two islands.

Where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. It was a very choppy day
In St. Kitts, I went to Timothy Hill where you can see the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea and the islands of St. Kitts in the middle. I was trying to find a cab driver to take me around the island, but he was being greedy since it was covid times and there were literally not many tourists and most everywhere for tourists were closed. Eventually, we settled on a price and he took me to Timothy Hill and back to the town center.
There’s a photo of Timothy Hill further down in this article, but I actually though this photo of this beach on the Atlantic side was worth sharing. It was a very windy day as you can tell by the waves.

I then did an extensive walk of the downtown area, where I went to the market, ate some food and walked he neighborhoods and even walked to the airport which was quite the adventure.

Both islands have an airport. The one on St. Kitts is called Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) and the one on Nevis is called Vance W. Amory International Airport (NEV). I didn’t make it to the airport on Nevis, so no photos of that one.

I just did a day trip to the island, so I didn’t stay in a hotel. Use the map below to find a hotel. You may also stay on the nearby island of Nevis which is accessible by air and a ferry. There is also a Four Seasons on the island of Nevis.

I only spent a few hours on the island and there are food establishments everywhere reasonably priced too. Follow your nose and also ask the locals.

Things To Do
I was able to walk around the capital of Basseterre quite a bit while there on my day trip, I even made it to Nevis using the ferry service. I found a taxi driver to take me around, but he wanted too much money, so we only went one place and I saw some sights along the way. The rest of the time I walked the city and ate a lot of food :-).
Of course there are beaches.

If you want to find this to do, I’ve shared some photos below of what I saw walking around the town, which you must do as well. Plus you can book some tours via my partner Viator:

You can also use my other site https://www.10in24.com to find some things to do as well.
The city is still rooted in colonialism with a square called Piccadilly Circus like the one in London.

In the downtown area a lot of the colonial buildings are still preserved and some occupied.

There is a lookout point called Timothy Hill where you can see the Atlantic Ocean on the left and the Caribbean Sea on the right.
