The Vibe

What Dallas actually feels like on the ground.

City Vibe

Dallas-Fort Worth is the largest host region in the tournament — 7.5 million people, two major airports, and AT&T Stadium sitting in the middle of it all in Arlington. The stadium itself is extraordinary: 94,000 seats, a retractable roof, the largest high-definition video screen in the world, and an atmosphere on a Cowboys game day that makes it one of the most intimidating sports venues in America. For the World Cup it becomes Dallas Stadium, but everyone will still call it Jerry World. The challenge is purely logistical: Arlington has zero public transit — no bus, no rail, nothing. Getting to this stadium requires a car, a rideshare, or the TRE train-to-charter-bus combination that officials have set up. The good news: DFW airport is 18 miles away and American’s massive hub means carrier options are exceptional. The city itself rewards non-match days — Deep Ellum, Uptown, the Sixth Floor Museum, and Fort Worth’s Stockyards are all within reach.

Hotels Near AT&T Stadium & Dallas

Arlington hotels near the stadium are most convenient. Downtown Dallas and Fort Worth give a better city experience with a 30–60 min match-day commute. Semifinal week Jul 12–14 will sell out far in advance.

Airport Info

American’s massive hub at DFW anchors this market. DAL serves Southwest and Delta. Three small regional airports exist but are last resorts — AA-only with limited schedules.

Primary Airports

DFW and DAL are the two commercial airports. DFW is the right call for almost every nonrev routing — 34 carriers and direct proximity to Arlington via I-30. DAL is useful specifically for Southwest routings.

DFWDallas-Fort Worth International Airport18 miles to AT&T Stadium · ~25–40 min by car or rideshareAmerican’s major hub — one of the busiest airports in the world. No train from DFW directly to AT&T Stadium. On match days: TRE (Trinity Railway Express) from CentrePort/DFW station → charter bus to stadium hub (~1.5 hrs total, plan 3+ hrs ahead of kickoff). Or rideshare from DFW to the Esports Stadium Arlington rideshare lot (0.7 miles from gates, ~$30–60 off-peak, significantly more on match days). Driving is the fastest option off-peak; avoid on Argentina and Semifinal days.Airlines serving DFW: Aerolineas Argentinas (AR), Aeromexico (AM), Air Canada (AC), Air France (AF), Alaska Airlines (AS), Avelo Airlines (XP), Avianca (AV), Breeze Airways (MX), British Airways (BA), Cathay Pacific (CX), Condor (DE), Delta Air Lines (DL), Emirates (EK), EVA Air (BR), Fiji Airways (FJ), Finnair (AY), Frontier Airlines (F9), Iberia (IB), JAL (JL), JetBlue (B6), Key Lime Air (KG), Korean Air (KE), Lufthansa (LH), Qantas (QF), Qatar Airways (QR), Royal Jordanian (RJ), Southern Airways Express (9X), Spirit Airlines (NK), Sun Country Airlines (SY), Turkish Airlines (TK), United Airlines (UA), VivaAerobus (VB), Volaris (Y4).
DALDallas Love Field~25 miles to AT&T Stadium · ~30–45 min by carSouthwest’s home base — Delta and Southwest are the only carriers. No direct transit to AT&T Stadium. TRE accessible via “Love Link” bus from Inwood/Love Field DART station into downtown Dallas, then TRE to CentrePort and charter bus to stadium (~2 hrs total). Rideshare direct is simpler. DAL is specifically useful if you’re routing on Southwest from anywhere in the US — WN’s network is strongest here and DFW doesn’t serve Southwest at all.Airlines serving DAL: Delta Air Lines (DL), Southwest Airlines (WN).

Regional Alternates

Two airports worth a real check when DFW and DAL are impossible. ICT (Wichita) is the stronger option with 6 carriers. ABI and the single-carrier regional airports are last resorts only.

ICTWichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport~200 miles north · ~3 hrs drive via I-35Six carriers — AA, AS, DL, G4, UA, WN — making ICT the most useful regional alternate in the broader DFW market. Drive south on I-35 from Wichita through Oklahoma City to the DFW metroplex and Arlington. Three hours in normal traffic. Worth checking if you have a Southwest, Alaska, or Allegiant routing with no DFW/DAL options — those three don’t all overlap at Dallas airports.Airlines serving ICT: Alaska Airlines (AS), Allegiant Air (G4), American Airlines (AA), Delta Air Lines (DL), Southwest Airlines (WN), United Airlines (UA).
ACTWaco Regional Airport~100 miles south · ~1.5 hrs drive via I-35American Airlines and United serve ACT. Closest of the regional alternates and the straightest drive — I-35 north directly to Arlington. Only worth checking if DFW and DAL are both impossible on your AA or UA routing and your inbound connection can reach Waco. Car required.Airlines serving ACT: American Airlines (AA), United Airlines (UA).
TYRTyler Pounds Regional Airport~95 miles east · ~1.5 hrs drive via US-80American Airlines only — regional feed from DFW hub. Drive west on I-20 toward Dallas then I-30 west to Arlington. Last resort for AA-only travelers when DFW is showing impossible. Car required.Airlines serving TYR: American Airlines (AA).
Nonrev strategy: DFW first and almost always — 34 carriers including AA hub, international heavy hitters, and direct location. DAL specifically for Southwest. ICT (Wichita) is worth checking if you have Alaska, Allegiant, or Southwest routings with no DFW/DAL options — a 3-hr drive but 6 carriers. For Argentina matches (Jun 22, Jun 27), Aerolineas Argentinas from Buenos Aires will be completely full; every other carrier into DFW will be heavy Jun 20–22 and Jun 25–27. Position by June 20 for the first Argentina match. For the Semifinal Jul 14, treat Jul 12–14 as near-impossible standby regardless of carrier — this is the match that draws global audiences and every available seat will be sold.

Getting to AT&T Stadium

Arlington has zero public transit. The official match-day plan is TRE train + charter bus. Rideshare and car are the alternatives.

AT&T Stadium sits in Arlington — a city of 400,000 people with not a single bus route, light rail station, or commuter train stop. This is not a temporary gap; Arlington voters have consistently rejected public transit. For the World Cup, officials have patched together the best available plan: the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter train from Dallas Victory Station or Fort Worth Central to CentrePort/DFW Airport station, where charter buses take fans south to a hub near the stadium. Total journey approximately 1.5 hours — but plan to leave 3–4 hours before kickoff. The alternative is rideshare or driving, both of which will be severely congested on Argentina and Semifinal match days.

🚆TRE Train + Charter Bus (Official)Dallas Victory Station or Fort Worth Central Station → TRE to CentrePort/DFW Airport Station (~30 min) → charter bus to stadium bus hub (~20 min) → 0.7 mile walk to gates. Total ~1.5 hrs. Plan 3–4 hours before kickoff. Tickets: GoPass app for TRE fare. Charter bus included with match ticket. Service begins 4+ hours before kickoff. Late match days (Jun 27 9pm CT): verify return service times — last buses may stop by midnight.
🚗Rideshare — Designated Drop-OffRideshare drops off at the Esports Stadium Arlington lot, 0.7 miles from AT&T Stadium gates — follow the new sidewalk along AT&T Way for a direct walking route. DFW to stadium: ~$30–60 off-peak, significantly more on Argentina and Semifinal days. Pre-book return rides before kickoff — post-match wait at the rideshare lot will be extreme. Leave immediately at final whistle or wait 60+ min.
🚗Driving — Pre-Purchased Parking Required16,600 parking spaces available (vs. full-capacity NFL days). Pre-purchased only — no day-of parking. I-30 is the primary route from Dallas; TX-360 and President George Bush Turnpike from the north. Managed toll lanes on I-30 will be used for FIFA vehicles and charters — follow GPS guidance on match days as your regular route may not be quickest. Post-match plan: leave immediately or budget 60–90 min to exit.
🏟️Fan Festival — Fair Park, DallasThe FIFA Fan Festival is at Fair Park in Dallas — DART Green Line to Fair Park Station or MLK Jr. Station. A completely separate location from AT&T Stadium in Arlington (30 min by car between them). If you’re attending both the fan festival and a match, budget significant time. The DART light rail system serves Fair Park well; it does not connect to Arlington.
The heat: July in the Dallas-Fort Worth area averages 96°F with high humidity. AT&T Stadium has a retractable roof and air conditioning — inside is comfortable. Outside, in parking lots and the 0.7-mile walk from the rideshare lot, the heat is real. Arrive early to get inside before the worst of the afternoon heat on day games. Carry water. The June matches are also hot — Texas summer starts early.

5 Things To Do in Dallas-Fort Worth

Between matches — the DFW metroplex has more going on than most people expect.

1Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey PlazaThe museum in the former Texas School Book Depository documenting the assassination of President Kennedy — one of the most sobering and thoughtfully curated museums in the country. The view from the window where Lee Harvey Oswald fired is preserved. DART Red Line to Union Station, short walk. Budget three hours and go with an open mind — it’s better than you might expect.
2Deep EllumDallas’s live music and arts neighborhood — murals, bars, barbecue joints, and one of the best concentrations of local restaurants in the city. The area around Commerce Street and Elm Street is the core. DART Green Line to Deep Ellum Station. During the World Cup with international teams in town, this neighborhood will be genuinely electric on match evenings. The best atmosphere in Dallas for fans who don’t have tickets.
3Fort Worth StockyardsThe last authentic working stockyard in the US — twice-daily longhorn cattle drives down Exchange Avenue, honky-tonk bars, and some of the best Texas barbecue and chicken-fried steak in the state. A genuine slice of Texas culture that isn’t manufactured for tourists. TRE from Dallas to Fort Worth Central, then a short rideshare. Half-day minimum. Go for the evening cattle drive at 4pm.
4Dallas Museum of Art & Arts DistrictOne of the largest art museums in the US — free general admission — anchoring a walkable arts district that includes the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Crow Museum of Asian Art, and the AT&T Performing Arts Center. DART Green Line to St. Paul or Pearl stations. A good rainy afternoon or a break from the heat on a non-match day. The DMA’s collection is genuinely world-class.
5Uptown Dallas & McKinney AvenueThe most walkable neighborhood in Dallas — restaurants, rooftop bars, and the free M-Line Trolley running up McKinney Avenue. A good base for non-match evenings when you want options within walking distance. The neighborhood around the West Village shopping area and the restaurants on Knox-Henderson north of Uptown are the best for food. Plan to eat well here rather than in Arlington.

Flight Load Analysis

What to expect flying standby into DFW during the World Cup.

Argentina Matches (Jun 22, Jun 27)Extremely HeavyDefending champions — largest diaspora in South America. Aerolineas Argentinas from EZE will be full. Every carrier into DFW will be heavy Jun 20–22 and Jun 25–27. Position by June 20.
England Match (Jun 17)Very HeavyEngland fans travel in large numbers. Transatlantic loads via BA, VS, AA will spike Jun 15–17. British Airways serves DFW direct from LHR.
Semifinal Week (Jul 12–14)Near ImpossibleThe Semifinal draws global audiences regardless of which teams qualify. Near-impossible standby Jul 12–14. Position by July 11 at the absolute latest.
Between Match DaysModerateDFW is AA’s largest hub with excellent baseline frequency. Non-match weekdays are best positioning windows — but Dallas carries elevated baseline loads year-round.

Travel Insurance

Nine matches, a Semifinal, and an Argentina lineup — a lot of prepaid spend to protect.

The nonrev reality on travel insurance: If you’re flying standby and don’t get a seat, travel insurance won’t cover your prepaid hotel or other costs. Not clearing a standby flight isn’t a covered loss — it’s the nature of nonrev travel. Coverage only applies if you had a confirmed seat on a flight and something went wrong with that confirmed flight — a cancellation, significant delay, or covered medical emergency.

What helps here: Dallas is an unusual case because there’s no meaningful train-from-another-city contingency — unlike Philadelphia where you can take Amtrak from New York, or Seattle where you can take the Cascades from Portland. The only insurable transport layer you can add is a confirmed flight into any Dallas-area airport. If you position into DFW on a confirmed flight and that flight is cancelled due to a covered event, your downstream hotel and other costs are protectable. For a Semifinal trip with hotels booked well in advance, confirming your positioning flight early and insuring it is the right move.
