The Vibe

What Miami actually feels like on the ground.

City Vibe

Miami doesn’t need a World Cup to feel like an international city — it already is one. The cultures of Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond coexist here in a way that makes every match weekend feel like a home game for half the fans in the stadium. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens hosts NFL Super Bowls, the F1 Miami Grand Prix, and the Miami Open — it knows how to handle a major event. The heat in June and July is real: mid-90s with humidity that makes it feel worse. Games in the evening help, but budget for air conditioning wherever you end up. Brickell, Wynwood, and Little Havana are the neighborhoods you want to be in — walking distance from nothing, but the food and energy are worth every rideshare. The Quarterfinal on July 11 will be one of the most-watched matches of the entire tournament.

Match Schedule

Seven matches at Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Stadium), 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens — June 15 to July 18.

Quarterfinal week Jul 9–11 will sell out quickly. Zoom out on the map to see other options and places to stay in reference to the Stadium. Recommended places to stay if places super close to the Stadium are sold out are: Coconut Grove, Doral, Aventura, Coral Gables, North Broward, Coconut Creek and South Miami Date plus Brickell and downtown Miami also work well via rideshare.

Airport Info

Three commercial airports serve the South Florida area — plus the Brightline rail option from Orlando that changes the math entirely on busy match days.

Primary Airports

MIA is American’s hub with the strongest international connectivity in Florida. FLL is the high-volume alternative with excellent domestic carrier coverage and a free shuttle to the Brightline station. Check both before writing off Miami.

MIAMiami International Airport~16 miles to Hard Rock Stadium · ~20 min by rideshareAmerican Airline’s primary hub in Florida and the most internationally connected airport in the state. About sixteen miles from the stadium — no direct rail, use rideshare or taxi. The Miami Metrorail Orange Line runs from MIA to Government Center downtown, but doesn’t connect directly to Hard Rock Stadium. A Brightline shuttle runs between MIA and the Miami Brightline Station for rail connections. On match days, budget 35–45 min for the rideshare to the stadium.Airlines serving MIA: AccesRail (9B), Aer Lingus (EI), Aeromexico (AM), Aerolineas Argentinas (AR), Air Canada (AC), Air Europa (UX), Air France (AF), Alaska Airlines (AS), Arajet (DM), Avianca (AV), Bahamasair (UP), BoA (OB), British Airways (BA), Caribbean Airlines (BW), Cayman Airways (KX), Copa Airlines (CM), Delta Air Lines (DL), El Al (LY), Emirates (EK), Finnair (AY), French Bee (BF), Frontier Airlines (F9), GlobalX (G6), Gol (G3), Iberia (IB), Icelandair (FI), ITA Airways (AZ), KLM (KL), LATAM Airlines (LA), LOT Polish Airlines (LO), Lufthansa (LH), Porter Airlines (PD), Qatar Airways (QR), Royal Air Maroc (AT), SAS (SK), SkyHigh Dominicana (DO), Sky Airline Peru (H8), Southwest Airlines (WN), Spirit Airlines (NK), Sun Country Airlines (SY), Surinam Airways (PY), Swiss (LX), TAP Air Portugal (TP), Turkish Airlines (TK), United Airlines (UA), Virgin Atlantic (VS), VivaAerobus (VB), Volaris (Y4).
FLLFort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport~17 miles to Hard Rock Stadium · ~25-30 min by rideshare in normal trafficIt’s a focus city for JetBlue and Spirit. Strong domestic LCC coverage and a genuinely useful alternate to MIA. Free shuttle connects FLL to the Fort Lauderdale Brightline Station — take Brightline south to Aventura (for the Stadium Connect shuttle) or Miami. Tri-Rail also connects from FLL’s free terminal shuttle to the commuter rail network south toward Miami. No direct rail to Hard Rock itself. Rideshare to stadium approximately 30–40 min in normal traffic, 60+ on match days.Airlines serving FLL: AccesRail (9B), Air Canada (AC), Air Transat (TS), Alaska Airlines (AS), Allegiant Air (G4), Avelo Airlines (XP), Avianca (AV), Azul (AD), Bahamasair (UP), Breeze Airways (MX), Caribbean Airlines (BW), Contour Aviation (LF), Copa Airlines (CM), Delta Air Lines (DL), Flair Airlines (F8), Frontier Airlines (F9), JetBlue (B6), Porter Airlines (PD), Spirit Airlines (NK), Sun Country Airlines (SY), Southwest Airlines (WN), Sunrise Airways (S6), Tradewind Aviation (TJ), Tropic Ocean Airways (TI), United Airlines (UA), WestJet (WS).

Alternate Airport

PBI is 64 miles north — meaningful carrier selection but a long drive to the stadium on a match day. Worth checking if both MIA and FLL are impossible on your routing airline.

PBIPalm Beach International Airport~59 miles to Hard Rock Stadium · ~60–75 min by carWest Palm Beach’s commercial airport with solid carrier variety. Drive south on I-95 to Miami Gardens — allow 75–90 min on match days. Alternatively, take Brightline from West Palm Beach Brightline Station south to Fort Lauderdale or Miami, then rideshare to the stadium. A viable last resort when both MIA and FLL are impossible.Airlines serving PBI: Air Canada (AC), Allegiant Air (G4), American Airlines (AA), Avelo Airlines (XP), Bahamasair (UP), Breeze Airways (MX), Delta Air Lines (DL), Frontier Airlines (F9), JetBlue (B6), Porter Airlines (PD), Southwest Airlines (WN), Spirit Airlines (NK), United Airlines (UA).
Nonrev strategy: MIA is the first call for American employees and anyone with strong AA ZED. FLL has better LCC coverage — if you’re routing on JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, or Frontier, FLL may actually be the easier clear. PBI is a legitimate last resort with a Brightline escape route built in. For Brazil and Portugal match days, expect MIA to run extremely heavy — both fan bases are enormous in South Florida and will fill every available seat.

The Brightline Option

Fly into Orlando (MCO) and take the train south — a genuine nonrev strategy when South Florida airports are maxed out.

Here’s the move nobody else is telling you: when MIA and FLL loads are showing impossible on your carrier and match day is approaching, check MCO. Orlando has 40 carriers including most major US airlines — and it connects directly to the Brightline high-speed rail network. The Brightline station is inside MCO Terminal C, steps from baggage claim. From there it’s a 3.5-hour train ride south to Miami, with stops at West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura along the way. The Fort Lauderdale station has a free shuttle to FLL airport if you need to connect onward. Caution though: it’s summer and MCO is usually very busy due to Disney and universal Studios theme parks in the area.

🚆MCO → Miami Central~3 hours · 16 daily round trips · Hourly departures · SMART from ~$79 · PREMIUM from ~$149. Station inside Terminal C at MCO — people mover connects to Terminals A and B in under 5 min. Pro tip: get off at Aventura Station, not Miami Central — Brightline runs Stadium Connect event shuttles from Aventura directly to Hard Rock on match days. Cuts your last-mile problem entirely.
🚆MCO → Fort Lauderdale~2 hours · Same Brightline service stopping at FLL station. Free shuttle between FLL Brightline Station and Fort Lauderdale Airport runs every 15–20 min. From FLL station, rideshare to Hard Rock Stadium is approximately 20 min.
🚆PBI → Miami / FLLWest Palm Beach Brightline Station connects south to Fort Lauderdale (~35 min) and Miami (~1h 20min). If you land at PBI and both MIA/FLL loads are impossible, Brightline from WPB gives you two more airport options and direct stadium-area access.
💡Booking BrightlineBook at gobrightline.com or the Brightline app. Tickets are required in advance — walk-up availability exists but sells out on busy days. Book the moment your flight clears. AccesRail (9B) also sells Brightline e-tickets through airline booking systems. Two carry-on bags allowed at no charge.
Long-distance option: If you’re routing from the Northeast or Midwest and flying isn’t working, Amtrak’s Silver Meteor (New York → Miami) and the Floridian (Chicago → Miami) both terminate in South Florida. The Hollywood, FL stop is actually closer to Hard Rock than the Miami Amtrak station. Combine with a rideshare for the last leg. Useful as a last resort for fans stuck in a northeast city with impossible flight loads into MIA/FLL.
The full MCO routing: Clear MCO → Terminal C people mover to Brightline → ride to Aventura Station (~2h 45min) → Stadium Connect shuttle directly to Hard Rock. Total MCO gate to stadium: approximately 3.5–4 hours. Alternatively ride to Fort Lauderdale (~2 hrs) and use FLL free shuttle or rideshare. Both options sidestep MIA/FLL match-day chaos entirely.

Getting to Hard Rock Stadium

Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens — not walkable from downtown. Rideshare is the primary option for most fans.

🚗Rideshare — Primary OptionThe most practical way to get to the stadium from most hotels. From MIA: approximately 20 min. From downtown Miami/Brickell: approximately 25 min. From FLL: approximately 30–40 min. Pre-book return rides before kickoff — post-game wait times can exceed 45 min. Drop-off zones vary by gate; check the FIFA venue guide for designated rideshare areas.
🚇Metrorail — Partial OptionMiami Metrorail Orange Line runs from MIA to Government Center and Dadeland South, but doesn’t reach Miami Gardens. From Metrorail, you’d need a rideshare for the final leg. Only useful if you’re coming from downtown or Coral Gables. Not recommended as a primary match-day option.
🚌Park & RideHard Rock Stadium’s parking sold out for World Cup matches, but Park & Ride passes remain available. Check the official FIFA venue guide at hardrockstadium.com for shuttle bus locations and purchase options. Park & Ride is the best option if you’re driving from further north (PBI, Boca Raton area).
🚆Brightline — Get Off at AventuraAventura Station is only 6.7 miles from Hard Rock Stadium — far better than Miami Central’s 25 miles. Brightline runs “Stadium Connect” event shuttles from Aventura Station directly to Hard Rock for major events; expect this on all World Cup match days. If you’re coming from FLL or MCO, Aventura is your stop. From Miami Central you’d still need a rideshare (~25 min, ~$20).
🚃Tri-Rail — Budget Rail OptionTri-Rail connects Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach on a commuter rail line running parallel to I-95. Golden Glades station is the closest stop to Hard Rock — about 5–6 miles from the stadium, requiring a rideshare or shuttle for the last leg. FLL airport has a free shuttle from the terminals to the nearby Tri-Rail station. Significantly cheaper than Brightline. Best for fans coming from Fort Lauderdale or the PBI area on a budget.
🚂Amtrak — Silver Meteor & FloridianTwo long-distance Amtrak routes serve South Florida. The Silver Meteor runs daily between New York Penn Station and Miami (~28 hrs), stopping at Hollywood (HOL) and Fort Lauderdale (FTL) before Miami — Hollywood station is actually closer to Hard Rock than Miami’s Amtrak station. The Floridian (Chicago–Washington–Miami, the temporary replacement for the Silver Star) also terminates in Miami. Useful for fans traveling from the Northeast or Midwest who want an overnight train option. Note: Amtrak’s on-time performance on Florida routes averages around 55% — build schedule buffer accordingly. Book at amtrak.com.

5 Things To Do in Miami

Between matches — Miami rewards every hour you give it.

1Little Havana — Calle OchoThe heart of Cuban Miami — domino games at Maximo Gomez Park, versailles Restaurant for Cuban food, and a street culture that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is. During the World Cup when Latin American teams are playing, this neighborhood will be extraordinary. Budget an afternoon and eat everything you’re offered.
2Wynwood Walls & Arts DistrictAn outdoor museum of street art in what was a warehouse district — now one of the most photographed neighborhoods in the US. Walk the murals, eat at any of the dozens of restaurants, and browse the galleries. A 15-minute rideshare from downtown. Go on a weekday evening for the best experience without weekend crowds.
3South Beach — Ocean Drive at NightThe Art Deco Historic District along Ocean Drive is unmistakably Miami. Walk it in the evening when the neon is on and the temperature is bearable. Avoid the tourist-trap restaurants on the strip itself and walk one block west to Collins or Washington Avenue for better food at half the price.
4Brickell City Centre & BaysideBrickell is Miami’s financial and dining center — walkable, modern, full of excellent restaurants. Bayside Marketplace on Biscayne Bay gives you water views, live music, and a genuinely pleasant outdoor environment. A good base if you want to avoid the South Beach crowds.
5Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)One of the best modern art museums in the Southeast, in a stunning waterfront building on Biscayne Bay. The collection is genuinely strong and the air conditioning is world-class — the only thing between you and the July heat on a non-match afternoon. Free on the first Saturday and second Tuesday of each month.

Travel Insurance

A Quarterfinal trip worth protecting — especially with the Brazil and Portugal match weeks preceding it.

Miami’s World Cup schedule is front-loaded with marquee matches — Brazil, Portugal, Colombia all before the knockout rounds. If you’re planning multiple match days or positioning for the Quarterfinal on July 11, you have multiple windows where a missed connection or impossible load could cascade into lost hotel nights and ground costs.

Hard Rock Stadium is open air — July heat and afternoon thunderstorms are real factors. Trip interruption coverage handles scenarios where you need to extend your stay unexpectedly. For the Brightline routing from MCO, a Brightline ticket is a fixed cost that trip cancellation coverage can protect if your flight doesn’t clear.
