📚 Part of the Series This guide is part of Passrider’s International Nonstop Flights series, covering every major U.S. gateway airport. See every airport here. |
Detroit Metro is Delta’s fortress the way Atlanta and Salt Lake City are, but where ATL sprawls across dozens of carriers, DTW’s international map is overwhelmingly Delta metal. Twenty-four of 32 international nonstops touch Delta solo or in partnership, with Royal Jordanian, Air France, Lufthansa, Volaris, Turkish, Aeroméxico, WestJet, and Air Canada picking up the rest. Here’s every international nonstop from DTW, region by region, with the intel you need to use them.

The Delta Fortress Map
DTW is one of Delta’s core hubs, and its international network reflects that concentration more than almost any other airport in this series: Delta touches three-quarters of DTW’s international routes. The exceptions are notable: Royal Jordanian’s lone Amman flight, Air France and Lufthansa sharing their home-country routes with Delta, and a cluster of Mexico and Canada routes held down by Volaris, Aeroméxico, WestJet, and Air Canada instead.
The honest gap: zero nonstops to South America, and just one Central America route (Costa Rica). If either is your destination, you’re connecting through Atlanta, Miami, Houston, or Dulles.
Canada
Multi-Carrier & Multiple Daily
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ) — Delta (up to 6x daily, CRJ-700/900) and Air Canada (2x daily, CRJ-900), roughly 52x weekly combined — the deepest Canada route in DTW’s network, and mostly regional-jet equipment on both sides.
Single-Carrier
- Calgary (YYC) — WestJet, daily 737 MAX 8, ~4h flight.
- Vancouver (YVR) — WestJet, daily 737 MAX 8, ~5h flight — the longest Canada route from DTW.
- Halifax (YHZ) — WestJet, 6x weekly (skips Wednesdays), 737 MAX 8.
Multi-Carrier, Multiple Daily
- Montreal (YUL) — Delta (3x daily, CRJ-700/900) and Air Canada (daily, CRJ-900), 4 flights a day, ~28x weekly combined.
|
✈ Nonrev Note Toronto and Montreal are the redundancy plays here: Delta and Air Canada both flying each route means a full flight just means checking the other carrier’s counter, and Toronto’s ~7-8 flights a day combined is one of the most forgiving routes in this network. Calgary, Vancouver, and Halifax are solid WestJet routes (Halifax skips Wednesdays) with no backup carrier, so plan around the gap if you’re chasing that one. |
Mexico
Daily
- Cancún (CUN) — Delta, 2x daily 737-900.
- Mexico City (MEX) — Delta, daily A319.
- Monterrey (MTY) — Aeroméxico, daily Embraer 190. No U.S. carrier on this route.
Weekly Service
- Querétaro (QRO) — Aeroméxico, 6x weekly (skips Sundays), Embraer 190.
- Guadalajara (GDL) — Volaris, 3x weekly (Tue/Thu/Sat), A321neo.
Winter Season Only, Zero in Summer
- Puerto Vallarta (PVR) — Delta, winter season only, daily A320.
- Los Cabos (SJD) — Delta, winter season only, up to 2x daily (a Saturday A319 plus a daily 737-900).
|
✈ Nonrev Note Cancún, Mexico City, and Monterrey run daily year-round, and Cancún’s two-daily Delta schedule is the safest bet in the region. Querétaro and Guadalajara ride entirely on Aeroméxico and Volaris ZED coverage since Delta doesn’t touch either route. Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos both show zero flights in an August sample week and reappear as genuine winter beach routes once the season starts, with Los Cabos scaling all the way up to two flights a day. |
The Caribbean
Flat Weekly, Year-Round
- Punta Cana (PUJ) — Delta, Saturdays only, 737-900. Confirmed the same frequency in both summer and winter samples, no seasonal ramp.
Winter-Only Caribbean & Central America
Ramps to Daily in Season
- Montego Bay (MBJ) — Delta, winter season only, but scales all the way to daily A321 service once it starts.
- Nassau (NAS) — Delta, winter season only, also daily in season, A320.
Weekly in Season
- Aruba (AUA) — Delta, winter season only, Saturdays, 737-900.
- Grand Cayman (GCM) — Delta, winter season only, Saturdays, A320.
- Providenciales (PLS) — Delta, winter season only, Saturdays, 737-900.
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) — Delta, winter season only, Saturdays, 737-900.
|
✈ Nonrev Note All six of these show zero flights in an August sample week and reappear once winter season starts, genuine seasonal leisure routes, not typos or data gaps. Montego Bay and Nassau are the standouts: instead of settling for a single weekly flight like the rest of the group, both scale all the way up to daily Delta service in season, easily the biggest seasonal swing in DTW’s network. Punta Cana, above, is the outlier that doesn’t follow this pattern at all, a flat once-a-week Saturday flight whether it’s July or January. Check the calendar before you plan around any of this group. |
Europe
Nine destinations, and Delta’s deepest transatlantic bank in the series outside its coastal gateways. Amsterdam alone gets three Delta departures a day, and Paris carries three separate flights a day across two carriers. Only Istanbul runs with zero Delta metal.
Multi-Carrier & Multiple Daily
- Amsterdam (AMS) — Delta, 3x daily (A350-900, A330-900, A330-300), the deepest single market in DTW’s network.
- Paris (CDG) — Delta (2 flights a day) and Air France (near-daily), roughly 20x weekly combined, effectively 3 flights a day most of the week.
- Frankfurt (FRA) — Lufthansa (daily 787-9) and Delta (daily A330-200), 2 flights a day.
Single-Carrier, Daily
- London Heathrow (LHR) — Delta, daily A330-900, ~7h25m.
- Rome (FCO) — Delta, daily A330-300.
- Dublin (DUB) — Delta, daily A330-200.
- Istanbul (IST) — Turkish Airlines, daily 787-9, ~10h flight, the longest Europe route from DTW. No Delta metal on this one.
- Reykjavík (KEF) — Delta, daily 757-200.
Less Than Daily
- Munich (MUC) — Delta, 3x weekly (Mon/Wed/Fri), A330-900.
|
✈ Nonrev Note Amsterdam is the standout: three Delta departures a day gives you more shots than anywhere else in DTW’s network. Paris and Frankfurt both carry genuine two-carrier redundancy too. London, Rome, Dublin, Reykjavík, and Istanbul all play by normal single-daily rules, and Munich at 3x weekly is the one to watch closely if you’re chasing it. Istanbul is the only Europe route from DTW with no Delta backup at all. The Europe Non-Rev Planning Playbook maps backup routings for the thinner ones. |
Middle East
One Route
- Amman (AMM) — Royal Jordanian, 4x weekly 787-8, ~11h flight. No Delta metal or codeshare on this route.
|
✈ Nonrev Note DTW’s only Middle East route, and it’s entirely foreign-flag: check your Royal Jordanian ZED coverage before you plan around it. Four times a week means real gaps between flights, so map a backup before you list. For Dubai, Doha, or Abu Dhabi, you’re connecting elsewhere in Delta’s network. |
Asia
Trans-Pacific, All Delta, All Daily
- Tokyo Haneda (HND) — Delta, daily A350-900, ~13h25m.
- Seoul Incheon (ICN) — Delta, daily A350-900, ~14h45m.
- Shanghai (PVG) — Delta, daily A350-900, ~15h15m, the longest nonstop out of DTW.
|
✈ Nonrev Note All three Asia routes are Delta metal and run daily, the most reliable region in DTW’s network for standby. Nothing nonstop to Southeast Asia, India, or Oceania from Detroit, so connect via a West Coast gateway or one of Delta’s Asia hubs. The Asia Non-Rev Playbook covers the routing options. |

The Standby Strategy View
The redundancy plays: Toronto and Montreal (Delta and Air Canada both), Amsterdam (three Delta departures a day), Paris (Delta and Air France), and Frankfurt (Lufthansa and Delta). A full flight on any of these just means checking the other option.
The solid dailies: Calgary, Vancouver, Cancún, Mexico City, Monterrey, London, Rome, Dublin, Reykjavík, Tokyo Haneda, Seoul, and Shanghai. One shot a day; standard rules apply.
The trap routes: Halifax (WestJet only, skips Wednesdays), Guadalajara and Munich (both 3x weekly), Querétaro (6x weekly, no Sunday), and Amman (Royal Jordanian’s only DTW route, 4x weekly with no Delta backup). Days, not hours, if you misconnect on any of these.
The seasonal swing: Aruba, Grand Cayman, Providenciales, Liberia, and Puerto Vallarta all run a single flight (or, for Puerto Vallarta, daily service) only once winter season starts, then disappear completely by summer. Montego Bay and Nassau are the extreme version: zero flights in summer, full daily Delta service once the season begins. Los Cabos swings the widest, from nothing in summer to up to two flights a day in winter. Punta Cana is the one exception that doesn’t follow the pattern: a flat, once-a-week Saturday flight year-round.
Before you list on any of these, check the loads: flightloads.passrider.com has community load intel for other-airline flights, and the Nonrev Destination Intel tool breaks down month-by-month standby odds for dozens of these destinations.
